Omoro County lawmaker and favourite to win the Speakership, Jacob Oulanyah has formally expressed his interest in the job.
Oulanyah made a grand arrival at the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party headquarters in Kampala to put pen to paper about his interests in the country’s number post.
The Omoro lawmaker, was accompanied by supporters, waving the Ugandan flag. On Thursday, he swore in as MP for the 11th parliament, vowing to work for the transformation of the country.
Expression of interest for candidates was prompted after the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), sat last weekend and resolved that those interested in the post formally apply.
The CEC is also expected to sit this weekend to vet the candidates before a flag bearer is chosen to vie for the post on Monday
On Sunday, the NRM Parliamentary caucus, will sit to endorse the name submitted by the CEC.
Oulanyah is favourite to win the race with an opinion poll published on Thursday, giving him the lead (44%) against former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga (27%).
