MANIFESTO WEEK: Tourism Ministry Achieves 15 of 17 Targets Set

According to the Minister of Tourism Tom Butiime , the sector has achieved 15 of the 17 objectives in the past 5 years representing 92% competition rate. Although #COVID19 affected the department.

The goal of the ministry is to unleash the tourism potential of the country to contribute to Uganda’s vision 2040.

Butiime added that, Government undertook market activations and deployed 6 Market Destination Representation (MDR) firms in the core markets UK & Ireland, China, and Japan, North America, UAE, German speaking (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

He also revealed that, Numbers of leisure visitors- the American market has increased by 10% annually since 2016 until the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020.  Visitation to National parks and other selected tourist sites  increased by over 8.4% annually.
