President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday struggled to calm down down cheering MPs-elect who had just witnessed him display skill at the free shooting range in Kyankwanzi.
A video clip is trending online of General Museveni who is also Commander-in-Chief, taking down his target from a distance that left the lawmakers wowed, prompting them to give the General of the Resistance as he once referred to himself, a standing ovation.
The president inspected targets by MPs-elect who were in Kyankwanzi for a retreat.
“This exercise helps in achieving alertness and focus which I believe are vital aspects of leadership,” Gen Museveni said after inspecting the MPs’ targets.
Gen Museveni’s target skill reminds us of the many Hollywood movies produced about snipers and their rare skill, only that for the former, he had no sniper riffle, no sniper’s scope but just his live vision.
President Museveni was armed with an AK47 which military experts say is hard to use as a sniper rifle or when taking targets from a distance, a skill the president managed with ease.
According to Special Ops website, the AK-47 is known for its ability to function reliably under adverse conditions with little maintenance. Due to the way it is manufactured, parts are (for the most part) interchangeable between weapons. That is, parts from one AK-47 can be used in another. However, with an effective range of only 380 yards (350 meters), an AK-47 can hardly be considered a sniper rifle or used as one.
