Lack Of Positive Attitude Cost The Cranes Qualification

1 Mins read

Sir, allow me to express my disappointment and dismay at the way the Uganda cranes failed to qualify for the AFCON 2021.

In sports, positive attitude plays a major role but this field is often neglected if overlooked by many.

Good teams prepare their players psychologically about the task ahead.

For the Cranes, this negative attitude was exhibited when we lost to South Sudan by 1:0 in Nairobi.

This was a serious wake up call, but our players and indeed the whole FUFA management saw it as something that was of no consequence, after all, we would beat Burkina Faso at home and Sudan (now assumed to be strong) would beat Malawi. What negative thinking!

This was indeed manifest in the slogan used by Uganda for the Burkina Faso game: Let us seal it!

If Uganda had taken seriously that South Sudan loss, we would know that both matches (Burkina Faso and Malawi) were equally important and the notion of “sealing it” against the Burkinabe shouldn’t have cropped up.

After failing to beat Burkina Faso, morale faded and the match against Malawi was bound to be an uphill task.

Let us build the attitude of taking every game seriously as we embark on the World cup qualifiers soon.

Oh Uganda, may God uphold thee.
