Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) Director-General Deusdedit Kakoko has been arrested over alleged embezzlement of 3.6bn Tanzanian shillings ($1.5m; £1m).

The newly-elected President Samia Suluhu recently read the auditor’s latest report, saw that the money was unaccounted for and ordered country’s anti-corruption bureau to start an investigation.

Mr Kakoko was suspended on 28 March.

The government anti-graft watchdog, PCCB has refuted claims that large sums of cash have been found at the home of Kakoko. PCCB has said during the search at his residence only USD3000 and TZS 1.5 million were found.
