Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah is expected to oversee debate in parliament for the first time in over a year on Wednesday and Thursday, sources state.
There is excitement among Oulanyah supporters both in and out of parliament as the ever punctual deputy speaker is set to chair plenary sessions.
Speaker Kadaga will be in Mbulamuti, Kamuli District for the funeral of her niece, Sheila Alitwala, who passed on Monday.
The excitement among Oulanyah fans emanates from the fact that he has been rendered redundant for over a year, something they say is aimed at failing his chances of scooping thr speakership job.
“JO is known for his exceptional skills, punctual, a man of his word and he has been denied the chance to display them in the past year, but we already he is so nothing will sway us away from him,” a lawmaker told this publication.
Oulanyah and Kadaga are in the running the country’s number three position with an election on the post expected in May.
He recently told the media that now is his time to lead parliament, arguing that they had a gentleman’s agreement in 2016 that made him get into a compromise for harmony of the party, to allow Kadaga complete a 10-year term.
Many in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party say his chances were boosted by the gains the party made in Northern Uganda where President Yoweri Museveni massively won, something that was credited to his mobilisation skills.
