Uganda’s legendary opposition leader, Kizza Besigye has said the petition by his protégé, Bobi Wine challenging the presidential election results of January helped the country know how courts are politically compromised.
Besigye was on Monday speaking at NBS TV where he also said he avoids telling Bobi Wine ‘i told you’ reasoning that it would be rubbing salt in a wound.
“There is a lot to learn from what they (NUP) did. It wasn’t an effort in vain. If they hadn’t gone to court, our country wouldn’t have known that our courts are politically compromised,” Besigye said.
He added, “Hon. Kyagulanyi went and didn’t go far because he hit turbulence at the entrance. These courts have degenerated over time. The courts I subjected my petitions to are not the ones of today. The earlier courts had some judges not appointed by Museveni.”
Besigye contested against President Museveni for four times, losing on all occasions although he has previously disputed the results.
“I hesitate very much to say, “I told you so”, because it is like you are rubbing it in someone’s wound. Regrettably, the fact is we make ourselves blind to the obvious reality, then we go and crash ourselves in the wall, pretending that the wall isn’t there. The wall is there, and you will serve yourself and those following you better if you open your eyes and say, “There’s a wall here, let’s not crash into it,” Besigye said.
