As Ugandans went into the polls starting on January 14th, one family stood the chance to have four member dominate politics in Kampala or be cast in the political bin of history, the latter happened.
Francis Bau whose name in the politics of Kampala and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) needs no introduction, was contesting for the post of MP representing the elderly.
His wife, Zziwa Nantongo was contesting for the post of Nakawa West lawmaker while one of his sons, Cedric Babu thrust himself in the murky waters of Kampala Central seeking to represent the city.
However, by the time of filing this story, all the three had lost their elections to the competitors, Busingye Peninah Kalenge, Joel Ssenyonyi and Mohammed Nsereko.
Although Nsereko is not a NUP member, his tactical move to contest as an independent and show that his ideals resonate with those of the party, contributed to his victory.
The Babu family is successful by Ugandan standards and one would expect them to be embraced by especially Kampalans bearing in mind that flight captain Babu had eked his name in the politics of this country.
However, that has not been the case with the wave brought by Kyadondo East lawmaker and presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine under his National Unity Platform (NUP) party that impressed in the elections.
The three may also not be blamed due to the fact that they contested on the ruling NRM party ticket yet the party is highly unpopular in the city as most if not all posts were swept by NUP.
Analysts says the three pass off as aloof and not in touch with issues that affect the common person, another reason why despite their beautyful lives, they are politically unlucky.
It waits to be seen whether they will try shots at the same posts in the future or concentrate on business where they seem to find footing.
