Uganda’s army has launched a probe into circumstances that led to a a soldier shooting dead four people before he was put down in Nansana, a Kampala suburb.
According to the army spokesperson, L/Cpl Omara Denis Awillo shot and killed LDUs a civilian and police constable before he was also shot dead.
“We are investigating an unfortunate incident this morning, 1 1/01 /2021, where one of our soldiers, L/Cpl Omara Denis Awillo has shot and killed two Local Defence Unit personnel, one civilian and one police special constable (SPC) at Ganda, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district,” Lt Col Deo Akiiki, the deputy army spokesperson said in a statement.
He added, “The culprit was also gunned down in self defence and to stop his wanton action. We condemn the outrageous act of the lower Commander against his subordinates. We extend our sincere condolences to those whose life have been taken and grieve with the families.”
Joint investigations have commenced to ascertain what prompted the Junior Non Commissioned Officer (JNCO) to shoot his colleagues.
