Aruu County MP Odonga Otto is a wanted man after escaping police custody in Pader district northern Uganda.
The Aswa river region police spokesperson Jimmy Okema has told local media that Otto is wanted on charges of disobeying lawful orders and defying curfew as he reportedly campaigned beyond the stipulated time.
Following his arrest on Wednesday, the police issued a statement confirming his detention.
“We would like to inform the public that Hon Odonga Otto has been arrested from Awere trading center, Pader District Aswa Region, while campaigning beyond the stipulated time of 6pm as guided by @UgandaEC. He is being held at CPS-Pader,” the police said.
Okema says after he was arrested from Awere trading centre on their way to Pader Central Police station, Otto asked officers to be excused to ease himself but he never returned.
