Police Must Stop Brutalizing Opposition Presidential Candidates — Katikkiro Mayiga

Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga has said that the government should stop brutalising that opposition presidential candidates who are campaigning ahead of 2021 general elections.

Katikkiro’s comments come shortly after National Unity Platform president Bobi Wine and Forum For Democratic Change president Patrick Amuriat Oboi where brutally arrested yesterday by security forces.

“We condemn the brutality inflicted on opposition presidential candidates and members of Parliament,” said Mayiga before adding that; “Killing, firing teargas and police brutality must stop because they disrupt the country.

He further said that COVID-19 is but it shouldn’t be an excuse for the security forces to brutalize people.

“COVID-19 is real but that shouldn’t mean that those who don’t follow the Standard Operating Procedures should be treated like animals.

“Beating them, arresting them and violating their rights are also not allowed by the law.

“Government should not break laws and brutalize people in the name of enforcing Standard Operating Procedures to control COVID-19.”
