Uganda’s Electoral Commission has delivering a damning verdict on hopes by the National Crime Preventers’ Boss Blaise Kamugisha to take over the National Youth Council Chairmanship.
In a letter addressed to Moses Chris Mufakinanye, who lodged a complaint challenging the legibility of Blaise to contest for the same post, the EC says Blaise is overage as he is not within the age bracket of youth as defined by law.
Mufakinanye complained to the EC that Blaise was overage and not fit to run for the NYC top post.
The National Youth Council is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament as an umbrella organization of all Youth in Uganda between the ages of 18-30 years and is mandated to organize, mobilize and engage Youth in development activities as well as protect them from any kind of manipulation.
According to the EC statement, Blaise who holds a passport that had his date of birth as January 1990, made changes to his birthdate last month, adjusting it to January 1992.

Nominations for aspirants of the post are supposed to take place on Thursday and it is not clear whether Blaise will participate in the poll.
Two days ago, he won primaries to represent the party in the NYC elections.
The National Youth Council was first established by an Act of Parliament in 1993 (National Youth Council Act Cap 319) and amended in 2003 & 2010.
The Council is the lead, National umbrella body charged with the organization, protection and unifying of the youth of this country to harness their potential through raising their national consciousness, creating awareness on their health, skills development and Labour productivity for sustainable and youth responsive development.
