The Electoral Commission has rejected independent candidate, Katumba John for having no Tax identification Number (TIN) and failure to pay Shs20million required before nomination.
Speaking to the media after rejection, Katumba said that he had carried the money in cash but was dismissed as the electoral body required the money deposited in the bank.
Katumba said that he wanted to pay the money in cash other than bank because he has no TIN Number which is a requirement to pay in bank.
“I have been trying to reach out to the EC. I failed to pay because I don’t have a TIN number. I can’t have a TIN Number when I’m not employed or I don’t have a business,” John Katumba said on why he hadn’t paid Shs20m.
Earlier, Katumba left his car behind after it got a tyre puncture and decided to run to the nomination venue in order to be on time.
Katumba was expected to be nominated at 2:00 pm.
