Rukutana Arch-rival Kabasharira To Run As Independent in Rushenyi County

After being defeated by jailbird and Labour Minister Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana in the NRM primaries, Naome Kabasharira is planning to seek election as an independent candidate in Rushenyi county come 2021 general elections.

She made the announcement at a press conference held at St Paul High School, Rushoka where she as she met her supporters.

Kabasharira opines that she was robbed in broad day light in the NRM primaries.

“I know you have too much pain but I tell you that what Tanga Odoi did should not matter, you hold the people power,” she told her supporters.

She added that; “I want to arraign fears from the people of Rushenyi that they are the ones who voted, they are still living and they still have a chance in the general elections.

“I am therefore informing them today that I have decided to come as their request has been and they cast their votes because I know that in the general elections it will be very difficult for someone to cheat and we shall win as we have been the winners.”

It should e noted that the NRM primaries in Rushenyi were marred with violence and its apex being the situation where minister Rukutana grabbed a gun and attempted to shoot at civilians.

He was later arrested and charged.

Upon his release from jail, a vote recount was done and Rukutana emerged victor with 25,310 votes (46.27 percent) as Naome Kabasharira managed 25,290 (46.23 percent)
