The president of National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu commonly known as Bobi Wine has said that his party’s flag is not for sale.
His remarks came shortly after music promoter Andrew Bajjo who dumped the party and embraced the ruling National Resistance Movement said that he had been asked for Shs15million to be endorsed as the party candidate for the position of Nakawa division chairman.
While addressing the media at the party headquarters, Kyagulanyi said they have received reports that there are people within the party who are asking for money from aspirants for different political offices.
“We have heard complaints and reports of extortion and I want to reassert this that the National Unity Platform flag is not for sale. We condemn corruption, we detest corruption. We fight corruption in the struggle and in the same way we are going to fight corruption when we take power,” Kyagulanyi said
Kyagulanyi said any form on filthy act will not be allowed in the party and warned all the members to be vigilant.
In the same event, the NUP spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi called upon all those people who have been asked to pay in order to get the ticket to report such people so that stern action is taken against them.
Ssenyonyi also said the party has not yet endorsed official candidates because their electoral body is still carrying out consultations on the best candidate for various electoral areas.
“There are those who are saying that they have the flag, you don’t give yourself the flag, a party gives a flag to you. I would like to let everybody know that the list shall be released for all those that have been given the flag,” he said.
Ssenyonyi said that as soon as the process is complete, they will release a list to the country showing their candidates for different areas.
