Gender Minister for Labour Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana and his 3 bodyguards slept in jail after they were arrested by police for shooting at civilians.

“Police in Ntungamo has this afternoon arrested and detained Hon. Rukutana together with his 3 escorts following a shooting incident in Rushenyi, Ntungamo district in which one person was seriously injured and a motor vehicle damaged.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition while the suspects are in detention on charges of inciting violence, attempted murder by shooting and malicious damage,” reads the statement issued and signed by Polly Namaye, Police’s deputy spokesperson.

Yesterday, there was video clip that circulated online and Rukutana is seen grabbing a gun from his body guard and advancing to shoot the people who were in the car.

People in the car are seen trying to take cover and one who seems to be speaking on phone says that; “Come, Rukutana is going to shoot us”

Then another person cautions the driver not to drive very fast

“Stop driving recklessly. Be careful,” one of the men charges at the driver, who responds, “Don’t put me under pressure. I know what I am doing.”

This website understands that Rukutana is battling Naome Kabasharira in the Rushenyi NRM MP primaries.
