The NRM Electoral Commission boss Dr. Tanga Odoi, has confirmed the postponement of Mawogola West primaries due to the violence that was meted on one of the candidates.
He noted that Hanifah Kawooya was assaulted by her rival supporters and therefore she needed time to recover from the injuries before the primaries.
“The commission has decided to postpone NRM primaries for members of parliament Mawogola West county constituency to date that shall be communicated,” he said.
He said this has been done to allow the commission investigate the complaints and to enable Hanifah Kawooya attain necessary medical attention.
He also announced that 41 party candidates have gone through unopposed.
This means that the aspiring candidates who have been announced will not go through the party primaries elections which shall be held on Friday September 4th, across the country.
Odoi said 31 candidates are aspiring for the MP seat and 11 candidates have gone through unopposed to contest as district chairpersons.
Some of those who have gone through unopposed include Jacob Oulanyah for Omoro County, Ronald Kibule for Mukono North, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng for Woman MP for Lira District and Fredrick Ruhindi for Nakawa East
