A Good Samaritan called Enos Asimwe has donated equipment worth Ugx 100 million to the Lyantonde District Hospital.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine said the donation will help to boost health service delivery specifically maternal and child health services at Lyantonde district hospital.
The equipment donated includes; 44 hospital beds, 44 hospital mattresses, 44 hospital blankets, 2 new born incubators, 2 new oxygen concentrators,2 baby warmers,1 Phytotherapy bed, 3 delivery beds and 4 baby cots.
The family of the good smaritatan also renovated the maternity ward of Lyantonde district hospital.
Officials said as a district, Lyantonde delivers over 5,000 babies annually of which 900 are by caesarean section therefore this support will go a long way in boosting maternal and child health indicators in the district.
Atwine however said reports of health workers seeking kickbacks from patients tarnish the image of the health sector and other health workers that diligently serve their patients.
She ordered the District Health Officer to investigate the cases of health workers so that they can be brought to book because the practice is against the health professional code of ethics.
“We inspected Lyantonde General Hospital and also officially received medical equipment donated by well-wishers to enhance government efforts towards better health services delivery. We assessed performance, and existing gaps that need urgent interventions,” she said.
