With the increasing numbers of COVID-19 especially in Kampala, government might be forced to go back on some restrictions in order to curb the spread of the virus.
In a tweet today, the Minister of Works and Transport, General Katumba Wamala said, “Fellow Ugandans, it has come to my attention that some taxi operators and motorists are not obeying #COVID-19 guidelines in place.”
He went on and said that the increasing cases of community transmission may force them to halt public transport.
Since the first COVID-19 case was reported in Kampala, it currently has 240 cumulative cases and out of the 13 deaths Uganda were registered in Kampala.
All these come after arcades, taxis and boda bodas were allowed to operate again.
According to government, many Ugandans have become very relaxed in following the SOPs that were put in place by government and this is why there is a spike in the cases being recorded.
Uganda currently has 1,500 confirmed cases, 13 deaths and 1,142 recoveries.
