The road map for Uganda’s 2021 general elections keeps getting interesting each and every other day.
Yesterday, Democratic Party which is one of Uganda’s oldest party lost 11 MPs to Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform.
Less than a month after the unveiling of the party, it now has 16 members of parliament already.
The MPs that crossed yesterday include include Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Sseggona, Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja, Bukomansimbi Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo, Kyotera Woman MP Robinah Ssentongo, Butambala County MP Muwanga Kivumbi, Kalungu West MP Joseph Ssewungu Gonzaga, Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga, Mukono municipality MP Betty Nambooze, Makindye Ssaabagabo MP Ssempala Emmanuel Kigozi, Makindye West MP Allan Ssewayana and Moses Kasibante.
DP is now left with Luttamaguzi Ssemakula–Nakaseke south, Deogratias Kiyingi–Bukomansimbi, Mary Babirye Kabanda–Masaka, Lyandro Komakech–Gulu municipality and Okot Peter–Kochi county as members of parliament.
The 2015 amendment of Uganda’s constitution permits MPs to change parties in their last year in parliament.
However, they continue as party members of the party with which they joined until the next August house is elected.
