The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party headquarters in Kampala are a beehive of activity with aspirants being nominated for various posts in the party
On Tuesday, prominent city lawyer David Kamukama (in photo holding forms), was nominated as he seeks to represent Sheema Munipicipality in the next parliament.
Kamukama will be going head to head with Science and Technology Minister, Elioda Tumwesigye and the former has vowed to unseat the latter in next year’s general polls.
“The Cardinal role of a member of Parliament is legislation. Laws are best made by lawyers. Nowonder Hon Elioda Tumwesigye scored 28 percent. We cant risk with a mathematician after the failure of a doctor,” Kamukama told local media.
However, to beat Elioda, he will have to go through what promises to be a heated primary vote for the party, something he is buoyant about saying he will go through.
The lawyer is an associate partner with Byamugisha Gabriel & Co Advocates.
He added, “It’s time to fight poverty in Sheema Municipality through Vocational skills under our niche Bikwase Kamukama Foundation Ltd.”
Kamukama runs the foundation as a platform to reach out to those on the margins of society and provide them with relief.
Bikwase Kamukama Foundation was launched at Kyabandara Church Of Uganda, Sheema Municipality.
In his vision, this will create an everlasting solution to the problem of unemployment and lack of hands on training, practical skills, income generating activities, inventive and innovative skills required in this social transition (21st century) to improve the livelihood of the less privileged families.
The foundation has a variety of hands on skills ranging from tailoring, wielding, catering knitting, shoe making, saloon among others. Imperative to note also is that the foundation/institution already has an enrollment of over 600 young girls, boys and women from the less privileged and vulnerable families in Sheema Municipality, though worthy noting is that more than 2500 people from different parts of Sheema district have registered for the forthcoming intake.
During the launch, Kamukama said training and skills imparted to these people will help them to earn a good living as well as create a sustainable development to the society.
