Police had directed media houses especially the radio and television stations across the country to notify police commanders within their areas of operations about their late night shows that might require their guests to move beyond curfew hours.
Speaking to the media at the Uganda Media Centre on Monday, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said ,the force has created units called violence suppression units and these will control demonstration and all acts of violence during the elections.
Enanga said the unit is to disperse crowds that form near media houses when they host certain politicians.
Enanga said while journalists are allowed to travel at night because they are among essential service workers, most of the people appearing on their programs are not in the same category.
According to Enanga, media houses will be required to write to their area police stations indicating the guests to be hosted, where they stay, the routes they will be using while returning home after the talk shows and the time the programs will start and end.
“Owners of media houses should tell us when they are going to host someone such that if the person resides in Kira, our unit that side is aware,” Enanga said
Enanga, this will enable them to alert their officers on the ground about the categories of people to be excused from those being held apprehended for violating curfew directives.
