Pastors Beg Government to Reopen Churches as Their Pockets Start to Run Dry

1 Mins read

A section of religious leaders has started a prayer and lamentation campaign to force the government’s hand to have churches re-opened.

Pastors while wearing sacks like it was in the Bible begged government to accept them start work again with slogans like one from the book of Esther about not being able to breathe when churches are locked.

David Kiganda, the president National Pastor’s Platform said they will wear sackcloth as an expression of their sorrow at the continued closure of churches.

“We have chosen to start wearing sack cloth in lamentation and repentance of our nation ,” he said while addressing the media in Kampala on Wednesday.

Recently, pastors gave an ultimatum to open the places of worship but the government didn’t heed to the request.

The campaign dubbed “I can’t breathe when God’s house is closed” is aimed at pressurising government to open the all places of worship as soon as possible.

“We have not even lost a rat. We have not lost any person even in the slums were the living conditions are very poor.we must all agree that no doubt this has been the almighty who has saved us unfortunately instead of praising him. We have continuously close his houses,” he said.

According to Kiganda, this is not a plan to make money as many people alledge. But we all know the motive of most of these churches and since COVID-19 continues to bite, it’s possible pockets are running dry.

“That’s is a very wrong perception and it is can only be a thought by a pagan.places of worship have been there for many years and they will be there by God’s will,” he said.

Pastor Wilson Bugembe also added his voice to the call noting that government should reconsider reopening of worship places at this critical time so that they can pray for the nation.

“People need us at this point in time when things are not moving on well therefore I ask government to have faith. Let’s us start with the reopening of Churhces,” he said.
