Sarah Kanyike Leaves Politics to Serve the People of Kampala in New Role at KCCA

The outgoing deputy Lord Mayor, Sarah Kanyike Ssebagala, has said that she will continue serving the people of Kampala and Uganda at large but on the technical side. 

Kanyike said that she has officially quit elective politics because it’s time for her to  concentrate on the new roles of director Gender and community services so that she can better serve the people. 

She made the remarks while handing over office to the new deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura on Monday. 

“I want to take this opportunity to inform you that I am retiring from the active politics and taking a new role of serving the people of Kampala and Uganda on the technical side and I believe I can add something on the development of the city, “she said. 

She noted that she served on the political side for 20 years therefore it’s good to always embrace new changes. 

A week ago, President Museveni nominated  Kanyike as director of gender, community service and production in the new changes at KCCA. The President also proposed Dorothy Kisaka as executive director, replacing Mr Andrew Kitaka, who has acted as Executive Director since December 2018.

Meanwhile ,Doreen Nyanjura, was sworn  in at a council meeting held at city hall Kampala as the new deputy Lord mayor. Nyanjura was appointed by the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago following the resignation of Sarah Kanyike from the position.

According to Nyanjura, she is going to use her position to help vulnerable including streets children who were recently evicted from streets.”As a woman, I have to stand and represent the interest of those vulnerable women. I hope I will start on the process of having a law in place to protect those groups of people,” Nyanjura said.
