Two more officials of Uganda’s immigration have tested positive with COVID-19.
This brings the number of employees with the COVID-19 to 4.
While addressing the media at Uganda Media Center on Monday, the ministry spokesperson, Jacob Siminyu said the 2 were front liners at the border entry points.
“Two of our staff were again tested with COVID-19. As you know this is a frontline entity, it is possible because it is about behaviour,” said Siminyu.
He added that; “We call upon the officers who are at borders to be more conscious and to observe the standard operating procedures.”
“The officers who tested positive were taken to hospital for treatment by ministry of health and that the moment we have now registered four cases and two of them were discharged by the ministry of Health from Mulago hospital.”
Simunyu also said the government has okayed formal repatriation for other nationalities that have been staying in Uganda during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There are people who were left into this country during the lockdown and now they want to go home because they have stayed for quite long,” stated Simunyu before adding that;
“Permission has been granted to such people to leave the country and in Busia we had 33 Kenyans, in Elegu we have 10 South Sudanese in Katuna we have 3 Ugandans who were proceeding to Rwanda.”
