Two of the new cases are truck drivers who were detected from Elegu and Malaba points of entry while five are contacts of previously confirmed cases from Kyotera and Amuru districts.

Meanwhile, another 55 people recovered from the disease, increasing the total number of recoveries to 578 recoveries. Globally, confirmed coronavirus cases now stand at 8.8 million while the number of deaths stands at 464,701.

Although Uganda’s positive numbers seem to be going down, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recently indicated an increase in the number of cases reported daily in recent weeks. The director-general of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the world is in a new and dangerous phase of the global pandemic as countries begin to ease lockdowns.

Meanwhile, there are hundreds of projects around the world centred at finding a possible vaccine to protect people before they’re exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.

The minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng is optimistic that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available by the end of the year.
