Stella Nyanzi’s Tormentor Professor Mahmood Mamdani Appointed to UN Board

1 Mins read

One of Stella Nyanzi’s tormentors, the Director of the Makerere Institute for Social Reasearch (MISR) Professor Mahmood Mamdani has been appointed a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

At the time of his appointment he has also been serving as the Herbert-Lehman Professor of Government at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University as well as the Professor of Anthropology, Political Science and African studies, also at Columba University.

Nyanzi lost her position as a research fellow at Makerere University after her prolonged fight with MISR director Prof Mahmood Mamdani and later the minister of Education, Janet Museveni. She infamously undressed at the institute in protest, launching her new identity as the Makerere don with a ‘rich’ Luganda vocabulary that she liberally used to disarm many.

Prof. Mamdani is a Ugandan (of Indian origin) academic, political commentator and author who has written and made a number of books and publications respectively. He has authored among others, Politics and Class Formation in Uganda(1973) and Academic Freedom in Africa (1994).

He is the 20th Director of MISR, a position he has held since June 2010.

The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Professor Barnabas Nawangwe congratulated him and said, “Makerere continues to provide leadership at all levels globally, Congratulations!”
