Uganda MPS evacuated from China, Ugandan students still abandoned there

1 Mins read

The Ugandan MPS that recently returned from China are to be isolated until they are medically approved to be free of the virus. However the Ugandan students that have endlessly asked to be evacuated are still stuck in the middle of a virus outbreak.

Earlier this week, the Health minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said it is against the World Health Organization guidelines to evacuate citizens from China. This leaves a big question about how the other countries were able to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan.

She also added that it is safe to keep those persons in Wuhan there because the city is under lockdown and Uganda doesn’t have enough capacity to handle the virus. But the numbers of deaths due to the virus keep increasing every day in that same city so the citizens there are in more danger.

This has left many wondering if the lives of these students don’t matter to the government. However the government said there is no plane available to airlift the students back home. The government promises to send $61000 to the students to cater for their food and other supplies. The money isn’t of much use to the students since markets are closed and most stores are running out of food. dunhid
