Ministry of Health develops a Shs. 25bn plan to handle the coronavirus threat

1 Mins read

The corona virus which was reported in China late last year has recently spread to more than 20 countries. This has raised awareness among others and equipment to screen for the virus has been installed at Entebbe airport.

The Ministry is expecting funds from the government of Uganda and partners.  The money is expected to fund a Research Centre that is able to identify the disease and help treat the victims in case of any cases. However there are no reported cases of the virus in Uganda although the surveillance and reporting systems have been intensified to avoid entry and spread of the virus

Unfortunately, there are Ugandans still in Wuhan, China as they were asked to stay put. The Ugandan students there really worry for their health and the city is on a total lockdown. They aren’t able to interact with anyone except social media.

The disease has claimed over 560 lives with more than 20,000 people infected in China. There is no specific treatment yet discovered to actually cure the virus but the infected are advised to quickly report to hospitals and seek medical attention.
