The training in the new secondary school curriculum at Lango College ended in chaos as the teachers’ allowances were reduced. The teachers had earlier been promised an allowance of shs.25000 with an additional shs.25000 which was later removed. Some of the NCDC officials were displeased and said these teachers were focused on money instead of learning more about the new curriculum.
The teachers that asked about the allowances were however asked to leave and the organisers were reported to be very arrogant and rude. The teachers refused to settle for the training until they are very sure about their allowances which did not happen. This had the whole meeting ending up in chaos and stranded at Lango college.
The Ministry of education had extended the reporting dates of a listed number of schools in order to make space for this training process. The new curriculum includes reduction of examinable subjects from 43 to 22. Schools will also have 12 subjects at senior one and two with one elective. The students in senior three and four will have compulsory seven subjects. The study period of the learners is also expected to start from 8:30am to 2:45pm.
The curriculum is meant to allow learners engage in research, projects, explore their personal talents among others. The teachers are also expected to do summative and formative assessment of the learners.
