The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) 2019 results were released today. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports, First lady Janet Kataha Museveni. In her remarks today, she called upon teachers to avoid the tendency of rushing through the syllabus as the whole curriculum is important to the students.
There has also been an improvement in the results showing 92.2% of the candidates passed compared to the 87.2% in 2018. 337,730 candidates were registered this year which shows an increase from the 335,735 that were registered in 2018. The number of girls registered was also higher than the number of boys.
UNEB chairperson Mary Okwalol was pleased to announce that the exams run smoothly and no cases of leakage were reported. She almost commented on the low performance of girls in science subjects and asked the exams board to get to the root of the cause.
UNEB thanked everyone that participated in the UCE exercise to ensure it was a success including the police and military.
