Civil Society Organizations Accuse UNBS For Failing to Fight Fake Goods in The Market

The food Rights Alliance, the civil society organizations that advocate for food rights in Uganda has made an alarm of the increasing number of fake products in the Ugandan market.

Agnes Kirabo, the executive director of this organisation said  that the Uganda National Bureau of standards (UNBS)  has failed to fight the sub standards of products and fake goods in the country citing a report from 2018/19 that puts the bureau’s performance below 50%.

Over the years number of fake products on the Ugandan markets has been increasing gradually and has been an issues for many experts in the country.

“I am here to prepare Ugandans and the people in Uganda that prepare for fake products, prepare for fake adulterated inferior agro chemicals actually everything, prepare,” she said.

“I saw my minister of agriculture saying he is ready for 2020. His goal is to fight sub standard chemicals in the market, I want to assure you he won’t be able to do it,” she said. 

She also slammed government for failure to help farmers which is a sign of a failed state.
