The Forum For Democratic Change Party has said it will use the services of private investigators to look into the break-in and theft of computers at the Party headquarters in Najjanankumbi last week.
Some of the items that were stolen from their offices include computers, significant documents among other others.
Addressing the media on Monday at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, the party’s deputy spokesperson John Kikonyogo said the Police have not been forthcoming with new information.
On Tuesday 19th November 2019, the opposition party offices in Kampala and the district branch in Kasese were broken into by unknown persons who stole computers.
Police in response arrested the FDC office security guard after a sniffer dog from the crime scene ended up at his renting facility which made him the prime suspect.
“As we wait for the police report, the party has contracted private investigators to do the same and this will enable us compare our report with that of police to inform the management of the next course of action,” said FDC deputy spokesman John Kikonyogo
The deputy spokesperson Kampala metropolitan police Luke Owoyesigire urged FDC to use competent people in their investigation.
“I don’t know their criteria that they are going to use but I hope they will use capable people who won’t report something false at the end of the day ,we are also going to look into it but what I know is that our investigation is independently done by police,” he said.
He said police is also going to come up with their report on the matter.
“We shall make sure that we come out with facts, if they want a report on what we are investigating, they can at any time write to us,” he said.
Some of the institutions that suffered the same challenge of breaking into offices and stealing computers include Human Rights Network for Journalists (HRNJ), the Observer newspaper, Inter Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), Legal and Service Providers Network (LASPNET), Citizens Coalition for Independent Media among others.
