Uganda Police Bomb Squad in Kampala has detonated a gas cylinder which was suspected to be a bomb device nearby washing bay off Mulago roundabout.

The Director of Science Andrew Mubiru said that they are to regulate the dealers of the gas cylinders after thorough investigations surrounding the device which was exploded
According to deputy Kampala Metropolitan area police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, police was called by some of the employees over fears of an explosion of the gas cylinder at the washing bay that also houses a welding workshop.
“When police came in, they realized they could not handle the incident as the cylinder continued swelling,” he said.
The police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident noting that the bomb squad was later called in to help handle the situation.
“The bomb squad realized they could not carry it away without exploding, prompting them to call in the fire brigade department. They thought they could use water to cool it but this was not possible.”
Owoyesigyire further added that the gas cylinder was detonated safely though some residents refused to leave the place which made the work of the bomb squad complicated.
“Police had to use tear gas to force them away from the scene so as to safely detonate it but the situation was well handled.
