Apologise For Shaming Parliament by Knocking at People’s Houses Thinking They Are Safe Houses – Minister Tumwine Asks Parliamentarians

Shortly weeks after MPs from the Human Rights Committee of Parliament stormed houses they thought were safe houses used by Government to torture civillians, Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwine has fired back.

Minister for Security, Gen Elly Tumwine, has said that the Human Rights Committee of Parliament investigating torture in safe houses should apologise to the nation for visiting safe houses and people’s homes without authority from security circles.

“As am a member of parliament, honourable members, I felt hurt when you ashamed the institution of parliament for knocking at peoples gates thinking that they were safe houses. I want them to apologise for shaming parliament,” Gen Tumwine said.

The Committee of Human Rights led by Jennifer Nantume Egunyu visited a number of safe houses to ascertain the gravity of torture on civilians just months ago, however they were surprised to find that these were not safe houses and were also not accepted by security guards at some.

Speaking at Parliament today Tumwine said the only safe house open to the public is the one at Kyengera but not the rest.
