Gen Tumwine Expected to Appear Before The Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline Today

Gen Tumwine is expected to appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline this morning.

Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline, on Tuesday commenced investigations into the conduct of Security Minister Elly Tumwine, who is accused of uttering statements aimed at belittling Parliament and the person of the Speaker.

Although MPs on the committee questioned the quality of the CCTV camera footage produced by Parliament’s security department because it lacked some of the key actions in which Gen Tumwine allegedly attempted to assault Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal, the Minister claims that she is afraid of what might happen to her next.

This comes after a heated debate on Wednesday last week when MPs debated a motion moved by Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Sseggona following allegations by Bukonzo West MP Godfrey Atkins Katusabe that Gen Tumwine made statements against the House and the Speaker, the minister allegedly met Ms Ogwal in the Pegeon Hall, where he is said to have confronted her.

Gen Tumwine is therefore expected to appear before the Committee this morning to defend himself against the many allegations that the MPs have recorded and reported.
