30 Students Arrested in Mbale Over a Girl

Two high school students from Mbale Secondary School, and Mbale High school caused a fiasco that turned in to a fist fight at the school premises. The outburst occurred after one of the students decided to attack the other who he accused of having an affair with his longtime girlfriend.  

The sour exchange between the two boys attracted the attention of both schools forcing police to swing into action.

To curb the scuffle, police fired teargas to disperse the rowdy students. As a result, at least 50 students were injured and rushed to the nearby Mbale Municipality health centers where some were admitted. 

The injured students have been admitted at Mbale referral hospital, Joy Hospice, Viena Clinic, Mbale general clinic, among others.

The Elgon region police Spokesperson, Mr Robert Tukei confirmed the incident and also noted that about 30 students had been arrested for inciting violence and are currently detained at Mbale Central Police Station. He also said that an investigation on the cause of the fight is ongoing and suspects will be charged.

“I can confirm that 30 have been arrested over inciting violence and they will be charged accordingly,” said Robert Tukei, the Elgon region police Spokesperson.
