For many years now, Makerere University (MAK) has been in the public eye for many things but mostly for student sexual harassment issues.

Yesterday, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor suspended three lecturers over alleged sexual harassment of female students.

The suspended lecturers include; Vincent Ssajjabi, an assistant lecturer in the School of Economics, Medard Twinobuhungiro, an assistant lecturer in the School of Business and Jackson Sekiryango from School of Languages, Literature and Communication.

“The committee set up to investigate these cases has completed and submitted a report on Mr Medard Twinobuhungiro and Mr Jackson Sekiryango while investigations on Mr Vincent Ssajjabi are still on-going. Management is studying the report and will handle in accordance with the Policy and Regulations against Sexual Harassment of Makerere University,” Nawangwe said.

Among the unforgettable recent cases of sexual harassment at Makerere include assistant lecturer Twinobuhungiro who was was recorded by a student demanding for sex or else he was going to set a hard exam to fail her at the expense of failing the entire class. Edward Kisuze also made headlines last year when he was recorded feasting on a student’s private parts while in office.
