Police Has Powers To Arrest With Or Without A Warrant — Fred Enanga

1 Mins read

Uganda police spokesperson, Fred Enanga has said that police has powers to conduct arrest with or without arrest warrant provided it’s within the law.

While appearing on NBS TV’s morning Breeze on Monday Enanga noted that there are cases where police summon someone and cases where they don’t to avoid the issue of hiding and destroying the evidence by perpetrators.

“A matter of evidence and detectives, you don’t need to go in uniform to blow your identity,” he said.

Enanga added that police is an institution of the state which takes all complaints against the person of the president as a grave matter.

“We don’t need the president to come and make a complaint for police to act,” he noted.

He stated that the move to arrest veteran journalist turned pastor, Joseph Kabuleta did not require president Museveni to first report to the authority in order for the police to act.

“For as long as we detect it, we move in. This was offensive for the person of the president,” Enanga said.

He said Kabuleta will be presented to the courts of law as soon as possible

“If we have sufficient evidence, we shall present him before courts of law. If there is no reasonable evidence he will be released,” he said
