This year’s annual Muslim Women’s Day will be blessed with the presence of the First Lady of Uganda and the Hon. Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni.

This was revealed by the UMSC Secretary for Women and Youth Affairs, Sheikhat Radhiyyah Namakula during a press conference held today at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.

The event will be held on Friday 29th 2019 at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala where tens of thousands of Muslim women from all over Uganda will converge.

This will be the third Muslim Women’s Day and the theme for this year is “United against poverty and violence”.

This day was put aside by Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to enable Muslim women to converge, share ideas, celebrate the achievements of the past year and plan for the new year.

While commenting on the day’s theme, Shkt. Namakula noted that various reports show that most acts of violence which include Domestic Violence, violent extremism and child abuse are caused by poverty.

She called for peace, unity, development and stable families as the best remedies to poverty and violence.

“A stable family is a family that is well fed, well educated, healthy, God fearing and free from domestic violence,” she said.

She said the UMSC Women SACCO is one of the projects that her office is going to front as counter measures to poverty in Muslim families.

Namakula lauded H.E the Mufti of Uganda Shk. Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje for giving Muslim Women a seat and a voice at the UMSC Management Committee, noting that; “for the first time in Uganda Muslim history, UMSC has women’s department with full representation on the UMSC management committee”.

She urged Muslims to come early and to park their vehicles at the Old Kampala S.S playground since vehicles will not be allowed inside the Mosque perimeter.

Present were; the Program Coordinator Ms. Nantume Zainab, Nassali Shabilah – the Chairperson of Kampala Muslim District Women and other members of the National Organising Committee.
