President Museveni who is also National Resistance Movement Chairperson has assured the NRM parliamentarians at a retreat in Kyankwanzi that the closure of Rwandan border will not stop the country’s market from expanding.
Museveni says the big market that Uganda enjoys in Kenya and Ethiopia, the temporary border issues with its neighbour like Rwanda will not have much impact in the long run.
The president was responding to questions from some of the members of parliament on what government was doing to some neighbouring countries that have blocked Ugandan goods.
“There are some countries that have refused our trucks to go their countries to take both import and exports, what shall we expect from the result of such? “one of the MPs asked.
“But the market is big; there is Ethiopian and Kenya, so that should not stop us, if there is problem here and there, so this temporary thing should not stop us, we can get opportunity somewhere else,” Museveni said
For the last two weeks, goods from Uganda have been blocked from entering Rwanda.
The president further informed NRM members of parliament that he will not sign into law the sugar bill that was passed in December in 2018
According to the president, the bill that seeks to regulate sugar industries and provide the operating zone for mills is not favourable.
Meanwhile president Museveni has applauded parliament for passing a motion allowing government issue promissory notes worth Shs1.3 trillion shillings to an Italian investor, Finance Local Construction Company Limited to construct a specialized hospital at Lubowa
