Popular power lifter Roy Mubiru will represent Uganda at the forthcoming 2019 World power lifting championship, due May 16-19th.
He is much recharged to lift the national flag after acquiring blessings and financial support from State House.
The heavy weight lifter was ‘honoured’ to meet the President after a long hustle to present his gold medal, which he won at the World Cup qualifiers in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, last year.
Mubiru, who met the President in Kiboga district at the youth mindset change workshop on Wednesday, had earlier met the Vice President HE Kiwanuka Sekandi and the speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga respectively.
The top government officials hailed Mubiru’s achievement and commended him for lifting the Ugandan flag high.
State House later extended him with support amounting to USD8000 (Shs28m) as facilitation for his World Cup preparations before promising more financial help to see that the sport grows bigger in Uganda.
Mubiru, who recently staged a successful power lifting and cross fit championship at the Elite Fitness Center in Kisasi, was appointed the director of American Power Lifting Association (APA) in Africa and was nominated as a member to the World Power Lifting Association (WPA).
We have learnt that Mubiru has been bankrolled by South Africa based socialite Chris Mbibo aka Cameroon Gitawo, and the two are planning to celebrate the achievements after being recognized by the government.
Mubiru and Gitawo teamed up some time back and have been injecting money in the weight lifting and body building sport with the aim of promoting talent in the country.
