Okello Oryem: Kyaligonza Could Be Recalled

1 Mins read

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem has said Ambassador Matayo Kyaligonza could be recalled as Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi to serve at Ministry headquarters.

Parliament on Wednesday passed a resolution to recall Kyaligonza, a member of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) high command who is accused of assaulting a traffic police officer Sgt Esther Namaganda.

Oryem says that the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to Kyaligonza, asking him to report and explain what happened.

According to Oryem, the Ministry will then write a report and present it to the President which could then inform the next move.

Oryem says in the past, officials who misbehaved in regards to battering women have been recalled and made to serve at the headquarters under close supervision.

Oryem said that Kyaligonza failed to behave courteously and according to the dignity of a diplomat.

Oryem says that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take on the resolution of Parliament.

In January 2018 Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Washington DC Dickson Ogwal was recalled to work in Uganda after he reportedly battered his wife.
