Kanyamunyu Murder Case Flops

1 Mins read

Hearing of the murder case against city businessman Mathew Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangai and two others accused of murdering social worker Kenneth Akena, which was set for Monday didn’t take place before High court.

Matthew Kanyamunyu and his co-accused are accused of murdering Kenneth Akena a social worker on November 12, 2016

In December, Kanyamunyu pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution alleges that Joseph Kanyamunyu picked the pistol said to have been used in the murder of Akena from his brother’s car.

Mathew Kanyamunyu who is jointly charged with his brother Joseph and girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari were present at court with their lawyers ready for the trial.

His brother Joseph Kanyamunyu is however charged with being an accessory to the said murder.

On Monday 21st January 2019, State prosecutor Fatina Nakafeero however, informed presiding judge Steven Mubiru that she couldn’t proceed to serve her witnesses.

“I cannot proceed to present witnesses without going through this requisite pre-trial step,” Nakafeero said

She further asked the trial judge to adjourn the case to the next session, with hope that by then, she will have disclosed all the evidence and exhibits to the defence team.

Consequently, Justice Mubiru postponed the trial to the next convenient criminal session saying he couldn’t find another date for the matter in this ending session.

Meanwhile some parts of the evidence prosecution decided to disclose, shows that Kanyamunyu was driving along with his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari before his engagement into a scuffle with Akena whom he accused of scratching and putting a dent on his Toyota Land cruiser vehicle that angered him.

However, it is alleged that Kanyamunyu shot Akena three times in the stomach and later he and girlfriend claimed that they only acted out of good will to transport Akena who was in bad condition to Norvik Hospital on Bombo road where he died.

Last year high court granted bail to Mathew Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend Cynthia.
