Cholera outbreak in Kabowa a Kampala suburb has put the country in panic more especially people around the city and so far, the country has registered 16 suspected cholera cases however, 7 have been fully confirmed.
Government has explained how to treat and curb the spread of cholera in Various parts of the city and enhancing general sanitation.
While touring Kabowa on Thursday 10th January, 2019, the state minister of Kampala Benny Namugwanya pointed out that renovating and constructing 300 public toilet facilities around Kampala as one of the ways of curbing cholera outbreak.
“We have discovered that a considerable number of Kabowa residents don’t have toilets and the available are in poor condition however plans are always in place to improve toilets systems,” she explained
She urged the residents to wash their hands after visiting the latrines, and proper disposal of rubbish is Paramount.
She stated that more funds are required to improve the sanitation in the city and that the population in the city centres has increased due to rural Urban migration.
The state minister for Primary Healthcare, Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu said government has started a campaign to fight, treat and curb the spread of cholera in various parts of the city.
“We have opened a cholera treatment isolation centre at Naguru hospital and currently we are seriously sensitising communities; no reason to worry,” Joyce explained
She further added that government has put in place adequate measures to contain the disease.
