Strange Disease Hits Kabowa Residents

1 Mins read

Residents of Kironde Zone in Kabowa parish are in panic following suspected cholera outbreak in the area.

John Suuna is one of the survivors of the mysterious disease that many suspect to be Cholera.

Speaking to some of the residents on Sunday 6th January 2019, they explained that some few days back some residents started vomiting, having running stomachs and experiencing abdominal pain before anything was done, one life was lost.

According to the residents, the poor hygienic conditions and flooding of Nalukolongo drainage channel are responsible for the outbreak of this unknown disease.

Symptoms of the disease are similar to those of cholera like diarrhoea, vomiting and without treatment, patients die after few days.

The Ministry of health has confirmed that they are aware of the disease and they have collected blood samples.

They are using the samples to investigate what exactly it might be.

“It’s really premature to something which is scientific to conclude that it’s a cholera outbreak. Let our medical experts at the Central public health laboratory do their role then we shall get back to the public and inform them what we found out after investigation,” Emmanuel Ainebyoona, Senior Public Relations Officer at Ministry of Health explained.

However, the latrines coverage in the area is still poor and the few are in terrible condition.

Juma Lubega, the councillor Kabowa 1 parish says a woman called Gladys Nampijja succumbed to the illness.

“She complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and later in the morning the woman was found dead.”
