Police Issues Traffic Guidelines For Motorists Ahead Of New Year Celebrations

Kampala Metropolitan traffic police has issued the traffic guidelines ahead of new year celebrations for motorists who intend to use some of the major routes in the city.

The main purpose of the guidelines to allow smooth flow of traffic and to curb congestion in the city.

In a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police commander Norman Musinga, he urged the general members of the public to use public means of transportation to reduce on congestion.

According to the guidelines, motorists with stickers will access Sheraton hotel through Ternan Avenue.

There will be no parking along Nile Avenue, Speke road, Ternan Avenue, Sezibwa road, Kintu road, UBC road and high court round about.

Police say any motor vehicle abandoned around those mentioned places will be towed to Naguru main police station at owner’s risks and expenses

“There will be restricted access to Kololo Ceremonial grounds, Namboole National stadium and Lubiri, ” the statement reads.

Afande Norman also said traffic police will be deployed to ensure that there is smooth flow of traffic in these areas.

Police cautioned motorists from being overtaken by excitement during this period but follow the traffic guidelines to avoid inconveniences

“The general public should avoid burning tyres on the road and this will affect normal traffic flow” police added in the statement.

Police said all those who contravene the traffic rules and regulations will be dealt with in accordance with traffic rules and regulations 1998.
