Kasangati Magistrate Court on Monday 16th July 2018 remanded three brothers; Akbaluh 28, Ashraf Matovu 32 and Ramathan Matovu 23 into prison for robbing Everyday Biscuits Factory in Mattuga
The three robbers on the 17th June 2018 at around 2am disguised as scrap dealers accessed the premises of Everyday Biscuits Factory, beat up and disarmed the three Securex security agency guards.
The brothers broke into the financial controller’s office, robbed Shs54million, proceeded to the staff quarters, tied up the workers and looted all the valuable belongings of the expatriates which included laptops, watches, smart phones, hard drives, televisions among others at gun point.
A distress call led the police to the factory but the suspects fled before the police could reach the scene.
A tip-off same day revealed the suspects were heading towards Bwaise and Mattuga Police made a quick response of putting a call through to the 999 motorized patrol counterparts.
The over speeding robbers were overwhelmed by the 999 deployments on the roads.
They were given a chase, intercepted, occupants arrested and vehicles impounded.
The guns belonging to Securex Security Agency alleged to have been used by the robbers were found dumped in a nearby bush 200 metres away from the factory the following morning.
The area police confirmed that the security guards were deployed with guns that had no ammunitions which was one of the reasons for the security breach at the factory.
Police is still on the hunt for one of the brothers who is still at large however others confessed to having been responsible for a number of robberies at various factories in Matugga.
A number of procedures were taken including conducting an identification parade and the three brothers were fully identified by the victims.
The trio have been remanded to Luzira Prison vide CRB 153/2018 on charges of aggravated robbery contrary to section 285, 286 (2) of the Penal Code Act and Unlawful doing grievous harm contrary to section 219 of the Penal Code Act.
