President Yoweri Museveni has extended financial assistance to the victims of the Gaaga bus accident that took place last Friday evening at Karuma in Kiryandongo District along the Gulu – Kampala highway that claimed the lives of 22 people and with a number of others injured. The injured were lifted to Kampala by UPDF helicopter for further medical attention on Saturday 26th May 2018.
The President gave Shs.5 million to each family that lost a dear one in the accident for burial expenses while those who were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital and St. Francis Hospital in Nsambya in Kampala have been given Shs.3 million each to foot medical bills and other related expenses.
State House Comptroller, Mrs. Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye, on behalf of the President, today handed over President Museveni’s financial assistance to the injured at the 2 Kampala-based hospitals. She said that the President has given an amount of Shs.110 million.
At Mulago National Hospital six victims received Shs.3 million each. They included Ojok Simon, Sempijja Abdu, Kintu Majid, Mutebi David, Nabisubu Martha and Amony Lawryn.
Those admitted at Nsambya Hospital include 22 year-old Akullo Gloria who sustained two broken ribs, Agona Jackson, Okello Robson, Apio Jackline, Mulangwa Nathan, Kabunga Malkangwa and Waswa Joel.
Ojok Simon at Mulago National Hospital says that although he is improving there is need to scan his head to establish cause of aching.
He thanked President Museveni for extending a helping hand to him and the other survivors.
