Police at Kira Road station is holding 21 year old Jackline Namuyonja for allegedly dumping her new born baby girl in a pit latrine
At 6.30am in Mulimila Zone, Police Fire Bridage and Rescue Services retrieved the body of the newly born baby out of the pit latrine.
Its mother had tied it onto a stone, probably to give it enough weight to sink deep into the 30metre deep pit.
She didn’t reveal to Police her reasons behind such a heinous crime even as she appeared remorseful.
Police said the incident came to light after the neighbours and her landlord heard the loud cry of the baby and grew suspicious, and called the area police.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said such an act is unbearable that a parent who should be assuming full parental responsibilities could turn against her own child.
“Every born child has a right to live, what the young mother did is a criminal offence, such acts are unacceptable and we cannot tolerate them,” he said.
She is currently detained at Kira Road Police Station as investigation into the matter proceed.
